Clive Jenkins Music
Clive Jenkins is mainly an orchestral composer, though he has also composed chamber and choral music. A Plymouth man, Clive displays his West Country roots in many of his compositions.
Locally he has worked with Plymouth Symphony Orchestra, the Ten Tors Orchestra, the City of Plymouth Light Orchestra, the Radio Light Orchestra, the Pressenda Ensemble and the Taunton Sinfonietta.
Nationally he has been played the BBC Concert Orchestra, Guildhall Strings, the Countess of Wessex’s String Orchestra and the Chamber Ensemble of London.
Composition Highlights
MAJESTY – played as Queen Elizabeth II led other royals and the Knights of the Garter in full fig into the Waterloo Chamber for an event in Windsor Castle
QUICKSILVER – composed to help pianist Duncan Honeybourne fundraise for Help Musicians UK.
TARTE AU CITRON – was the dessert in a programme all about food for the Banqueting House in Whitehall.
THAMES REFLECTIONS – written for the London Film Museum’s films about the river shown on five giant screens in the council chamber of County Hall.
NO MAN’S LAND – the double bass played the down-in-the-trench squaddie in this WW1 sequence of English, French, German and Russian poems spoken between movements.
WHITE BIRD – told the Dartmoor legend of the ghostly apparition at the window when a member of the Oxenham family was due to die.
MAYFLOWER PILGRIMS – cantata commissioned to mark launch of never-completed replica Mayflower premiered in 2004, but when revived in 2020 for Mayflower 400, half a dozen performances were cancelled by Covid.
TAMARSIDE – most broadcast work in full orchestra version or as No.3 of Five Pieces for Clarinet.
ORGAN PIECES FOR ODD TIMES were discovered in a London second hand shop by Harvard organist Carson Cooman, who recorded them and had them republished in the USA as THREE PASTORALES.
PASTORALE & ALLEGRO – first piece composed for Peter Fisher and the Chamber Ensemble of London leading to twenty-year association.
